About Standup Timer
A timer tool to help manage daily scrum meeting time. It manages each participant's speaking time with a countdown to improve meeting efficiency. The Scrum Guide recommends keeping the Daily Scrum to 15 minutes or less, but teams with many members can easily run over without a clear time boundary. By setting a per-person time limit, this tool creates a shared sense of urgency so everyone speaks concisely. It works well in remote settings alongside video conferencing tools, relieving the facilitator from watching the clock manually. After the meeting, you can also review each member's elapsed time to reflect on whether speaking time is balanced across the team.
Features
- Per-participant countdown timer
- Auto-advance to smoothly switch to the next speaker
- Shuffle speaker order
- Sound notification for time-up alerts
- Overall progress and elapsed time display
Use Cases
- Keeping daily Scrum standups within the 15-minute timebox from the Scrum Guide
- Giving every remote participant equal speaking time on Zoom or Google Meet
- Helping a new Scrum Master or team lead facilitate standups without manual timekeeping
- Running time-boxed rounds in workshops, retrospectives, or brainstorming sessions
- Using the shuffle feature to vary speaking order and keep meetings fresh
- Reviewing time distribution logs to see if some team members consistently run long
FAQ
How many participants can I add?
You can add up to 20 participants.
Can I change the speaking time?
Yes, you can set it from 30 seconds to 10 minutes in 30-second increments. The default is 2 minutes.
What is auto-advance?
When auto-advance is ON, the timer automatically switches to the next speaker when time is up. When OFF, you switch manually.
Is the data saved?
Data is managed in browser memory, so it resets when you close the page.
What is the shuffle feature for?
Shuffling randomizes the speaking order to prevent fixed patterns. When the order is unpredictable, everyone stays prepared and the discussion stays fresh.
How long should each person speak in a standup?
The Scrum Guide recommends the Daily Scrum fit within 15 minutes. For a team of 10, that's roughly 1 to 1.5 minutes per person. Keeping updates focused on three points — what you did yesterday, what you plan today, and any blockers — makes it easier to stay within the time box.
