km/L measures kilometers driven per liter (higher is better), L/100km measures liters consumed per 100 km (lower is better), and MPG measures miles driven per gallon (higher is better).
km/L is common in Japan and parts of Asia, L/100km is standard in Europe, and MPG is used in the United States. The calculator automatically selects a default unit based on your locale.
