What is Bill Split Calculator?

Bill Split Calculator (also called a bill splitter, bill splitting calculator, or restaurant bill splitter) is an online tool for fairly distributing payments among groups for dining, parties, and outings. Whether you're splitting a restaurant bill with friends, a shared Uber ride, an Airbnb stay, or monthly household expenses with roommates, this bill splitter handles it all. It supports not just simple equal splits, but also weighted distributions where each participant can have a different ratio — perfect when someone ordered a premium entrée or stayed extra nights on a group trip. With flexible rounding options (round down, round up, or round to nearest) and rounding units ($1, $10, $100, etc.), any remainder or shortfall is clearly displayed so the organizer knows exactly how much to cover or collect.

Key Features

  • Set custom ratios for each participant for weighted splits
  • Choose rounding method (round down, round up, or round)
  • Set rounding unit ($1, $10, $100, etc.)
  • Real-time display of remainder or shortfall
  • Easy to add or remove participants

Use Cases

  • Splitting a restaurant check equally among a group of friends
  • Dividing an Airbnb or vacation rental cost by number of nights each person stays
  • Splitting a shared Uber or Lyft ride with different drop-off points
  • Distributing a work team lunch bill where some ordered more expensive items
  • Dividing group event costs (concert tickets, sports games) among attendees
  • Splitting monthly household bills (utilities, groceries, rent) among roommates

FAQ

How do I set the ratios?

Assign a numeric ratio to each participant. For example, with 3 people where A:B:C = 2:1:1, A pays half while B and C each pay a quarter. If everyone is 1, it's an equal split.

How is rounding handled?

You can choose the rounding method (down, up, or round) and the rounding unit. For example, with 'round down, $10 unit', $3,456 becomes $3,450. Any remaining amount after rounding is shown as the remainder.

What should I do with the remainder or shortfall?

Remainders (from rounding down) or shortfalls (from rounding up) are typically adjusted by the organizer or covered by a specific participant. Remainders can also be carried over to the next gathering.

What happens if everyone's ratio is 0?

If all ratios are 0, everyone's payment becomes $0 and a warning message is displayed. At least one participant must have a ratio of 1 or greater.

Is my data saved?

No. Calculations run as JavaScript in your browser. Input data is not transmitted or stored on any server, and is cleared when you close the page.

How do I split a restaurant bill with friends evenly?

Enter the total restaurant bill amount, add each friend as a participant with a ratio of 1, and the bill splitter will show each person's share instantly. For a tip-inclusive total, add the tip to the amount before entering it. If the split doesn't divide evenly, choose a rounding unit (e.g., $1 or $0.25) and the remainder will be shown so one person can cover the difference.

Can this bill splitter handle weighted shares (not equal splits)?

Yes. Weighted bill splitting is a core feature. Assign different ratios to each participant — for example, A:B:C = 3:1:1 means A pays 60% while B and C each pay 20%. This is useful when someone ordered a more expensive meal, stayed more nights on a trip, or used more of a shared resource. The restaurant bill splitter shows each person's exact share in real time as you adjust ratios.
