Editorial Policy
The editorial principles, fact-checking process, YMYL handling, and update policies that the Toolsbase Editorial Team follows when creating tools and articles.
Editorial Team
Toolsbase is an online tool collection operated by Localstyle Inc. Content planning, writing, review, and final verification are handled by the Toolsbase Editorial Team, which is made up of members with hands-on experience in web development, front-end engineering, security, data processing, and agile development.
The team is responsible for every stage of each tool and article, from requirements and specification through to writing and review. Final editorial responsibility always rests with the team.
Four Editorial Principles
The Toolsbase Editorial Team follows these four principles when creating content:
- Cite primary sources
Every tool and article is built on primary sources such as international standards, official documentation, and government publications. We do not rely solely on secondary sources (summary articles on other sites). Important figures and standards always include an explicit citation to the original source.
- Define technical terms on first use
Technical terms are defined or briefly explained on their first appearance. We avoid relying on the reader's background knowledge so that beginners and advanced users can both follow the same page.
- Publish only verified examples
Sample code, calculation examples, and conversion results are only published after being verified in a real environment. We do not guess or write "this should probably work." Browser API behavior and external library results are always confirmed in practice.
- Include disclaimers in YMYL areas
For tools and articles that touch on high-impact areas such as health, finance, tax, or law (YMYL: Your Money or Your Life), we always cite reference standards and include a disclaimer. The disclaimer makes clear that the tool's output is a reference value and that important decisions should be discussed with a qualified professional.
Examples of Primary Sources
The Toolsbase Editorial Team refers to primary sources such as the following:
- International standards: W3C (WCAG, HTML, CSS); IETF (RFC 8259 JSON, RFC 5322 Email, RFC 5321 SMTP, RFC 3986 URI, etc.); ECMA-262 (ECMAScript); ISO (ISO 8601 date/time, etc.)
- Official documentation: MDN Web Docs, Next.js official docs, TypeScript Handbook, Python official docs, Node.js official docs
- Japanese government and public bodies: National Tax Agency (income tax, consumption tax); Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (health standards); Financial Services Agency (investment, loans); Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (networking)
- International public bodies: NIST (SP 800-63B password strength, FIPS hash specifications); IANA (IP addresses, port numbers); IEEE
- Academic and industry bodies: WHO (obesity criteria), Japan Society for the Study of Obesity, Japan Diabetes Society, Investment Trusts Association, Japan
- Open-source project documentation: Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor, Docker, kubectl, Git, asdf, uv, mise, and others
Fact-Checking Process
Before publishing new tools or articles, the Toolsbase Editorial Team performs the following checks: (1) Does the content match the primary source? (2) Do the sample code and calculation examples actually work in a real environment? (3) Are the numbers, dates, and proper nouns correct? (4) Are all cited URLs still valid? Existing content is also reviewed whenever specifications or standards are updated.
When a reader reports an issue, the editorial team verifies the claim and corrects factual errors as soon as possible. Correction history is reflected in the "last updated" date shown on each tool and article.
YMYL Handling
Tools that directly affect users' lives or finances — BMI calculation, loan calculation, compound interest, tax calculation, password strength evaluation, and so on — are treated as YMYL (Your Money or Your Life) and held to a stricter editorial standard.
Specifically, we require: (1) explicit citation of the relevant official standard (WHO, FSA, NTA, NIST, etc.); (2) a transparent explanation of the calculation logic (which formula was used); (3) a disclaimer stating that the result is reference information and that important decisions should be discussed with a professional; and (4) a visible last-reviewed date.
Update Frequency
Tools are updated whenever specifications or standards change. Each tool and article page shows its last-updated date so you can confirm how recent the information is. Blog articles are reviewed monthly and revised as needed.
Corrections and Feedback
If you find an error in a tool or article, or have a suggestion for improvement, please let us know through the contact form. The Toolsbase Editorial Team will review the report and correct any factual errors as soon as possible.
